The Pilgrim's Hospital

For fear of losing the relic or having it taken away from him, Longino buried the container holding the sacred blood in a secret hiding place somewhere within the Pilgrim's Hospital where he had found refuge. There he remained until his death on the 2^nd December in the year 37, having received martyrdom for his obedience to the Christian faith. He was buried near Mantua in Cappadocia.

The old soldier was canonised on the 2^nd December 1340 under the Papacy of Innocenzo VI.
