The Pilgrim's Hospital
For fear of losing the relic or having it taken away from him, Longino buried
the container holding the sacred blood in a secret hiding place somewhere within
the Pilgrim's Hospital where he had found refuge. There he remained until his
death on the 2nd December in the year 37, having received martyrdom
for his obedience to the Christian faith. He was buried near Mantua in
Cappadocia.
The old soldier was canonised on the 2nd December 1340 under the
Papacy of Innocenzo VI.
