THE TWIN TOWNS OF MANTUA AND WEINGARTEN

After centuries of common adoration to the Relic of the Holy Blood of Christ, Mantua and Weingarten have decided to create closer links by twinning the two towns. In Mantua on the 12th March 1998 the mayors of both towns signed a document to certify the twinning in the presence of the Bishops of Mantua and the Abbot of the Benedictine Basilica of Weingarten. The ceremony was repeated on the 23rd May 1998 in Weingarten and attended by the same representatives of office.

Religious ceremonies marked the occasion which now definitively links the two towns having the high honour of conserving portions of the same relic of the Passion of Our Lord.

The City of the Gonzagas and the city where the 'richest and most important monastery of High Switzerland' is found have solemnly renewed their faith and friendship.

Luigi Pescasio
